Legend Of Shadowville
Long ago, in the woods of Washington lived creatures beyond our imagination. Among these creatures were the vampire Culten family and the werewolf Moonhowl family.
The closest human settlement to the creatures was Shadowville. This legend follows how Shadowville vampires and werewolves won’t ever be good friends.
The Culten’s lived farthest away from Shadowville. They had fangs and drank animal blood. They were vampires. The Cultens were different from all vampire families because instead of drinking human blood, they drank animal blood. Phaeron was the youngest of the Culten siblings, followed by Akantha and Adreana. Rosalie and Demetri were their parents. Phaeron had X-ray vision, and enjoyed walking in the woods around their house. Akantha was the strongest in the family, and she loved to paint. Adreana could shapeshift, and danced incredibly. Rosalie could breathe fire and Demetri could become invisible when he wanted.
The Moonhowl family was very different in that every full moon they turned into werewolves. Fate was the youngest of the siblings, followed by Seth, Farkas, and Kali. Conall and Coreenaa were their parents. Fate had the power to tell if someone was lying or not. Seth had telepathy, he could tell what people were thinking by just looking at them. Farkas could run for the longest time in her family. Kali could heal creature when they were hurt. Conall was the strongest and Coreenaa was the fastest in the family. The entire Moonhowl family knew martial arts.
All creatures knew each other’s secrets. They didn’t fear each other. But all the creatures feared humans, because they burn them at the stake. The houses had roofs of straw and wood, walls made of stone, brick, and clay, windows had glass and curtains. The houses of Shadowville had a rustic feeling to them. Because the Moonhowl’s turned into werewolves every full moon they had to hide from the humans. Above Shadowville were the Shadow Mountains, high and dark peaks. The only path to them was through the town. Shadow Mountains were the only place that could protect the Moonhowl family against humans when they turned into werewolves.
Cultens and Moonhowls were good friends until this one night, which turned them into enemies.
The Shadowville Arts Fair happened annually in the winter. People from all over come to see and buy the amazing artwork everyone created. Creatures hid their scary features and came as well. Akantha sold her art pieces at the art fair to buy more art supplies.
It was a dark and foggy night in Shadowville when, Akantha was returning home from the fair with Adreana, Phaeron, Rosalie and Demetri. It was a full moon. They were coming back from the successful Arts Fair trip where Akantha was able to sell many of her pieces. Akantha, Demetri, and Rosalie wore scarves around their noses and mouths so that no one noticed their fang like teeth.
Meanwhile, the Moonhowl family was going through the town to go up the mountains to hide. It was becoming very foggy and the Moonhowls couldn’t see very clearly. All of a sudden Farkas started to scream. Something had grabbed Farkas. Conall and Coreenaa tried so hard to pull Farkas back, but the other force was too strong. Eventually, Conall and Coreenaa had to let go. Through the fog they watched Farkas being dragged to the outskirts of town by this black cloaked figure and chained there. She would be found by the humans in her werewolf form and be killed.
Conall was outraged and accused the Cultens.
Cultens also saw Farkas being dragged through the village square. Akantha and her family wanted to help their friend, Farkas but they knew if they did that they would be uncovered as well. They ran home so they didn’t have to go through the pain of seeing their friend die. On the way, Akantha stopped, she smelled prey close by. She caught up to the deer, and killed the deer. Her parents and siblings joined her. They were all enjoying the the catch when all of a sudden the Moonhowl family comes charging at them in werewolf form. They yell at them, “You killed Farkas,” “How could you betray our friendship?” “What has our family ever done to you to deserve this from you?” “Why did you kill Farkas?”. The Culten family was so confused about what was going. Everyone was yelling at them for something they didn’t do. Then Conall grabbed Phaeron by the arms. Phaeron screamed. As revenge, Conall took Phaeron to the outskirts of Shadowville, chaining him there to be found by humans.
Akantha and Adreana did not talk that night, they were grieving. The only people who were talking was Rosalie and Demetri. They were talking all night long, arguing, agreeing, yelling, refusing, and wepting. Finally, Rosalie and Demetri came out of their room and explained to Akantha and Adreana that they had to move far, far away from Shadowville so that humans don’t try to find the rest of the family and kill them all. “Your mom and I have decided to move up to Alaska. We will move in with your mother’s sister, Bellatrix. She lives up in Alaska away from humans. We will be safe there,” Demetri pauses and sighs, “Everyone start packing everything you will need to live up there. Bring as much as you can carry, no one is carrying anything for you.”
Akantha packed in a flash, well everyone packed in a flash. After everyone had packed they all set out to go find their new house. It was sad leaving their home that the Culten’s had lived at for centuries. Demetri told Akantha and Adreana that they will come back when it is safer. Culten’s left and wouldn’t come back in at least a hundred years. Rosalie called it a “Vacation”.
Eventually, they came back to their old house in Washington to live in. They were coming back to live their normal life in Washington. Their house was so spacious and private they were all happy to come back from their cramped “Vacation”.
Akantha ran up to her room and made sure no else in the family would claim her territory. She was so happy to be back from their “Vacation”. After everyone had settled in, Rosalie, Demetri, Adreana, and Akantha all went downstairs to the living room to talk about some changes. Demetri explained, “First of all, Rosalie and I will go to Shadowville and see what has changed and what will change about our family. Also, because Phaeron is longer with us, we have an extra room. This room will be used as a kitchen.” Akantha and her sister exchanged confused looks.
Rosalie probably saw their confused looks because she answered, “We have to put in a kitchen because it will be healthier for us to eat meat and not just drink blood. It will be new, but it will be good. It will give us all the energy we need to not feel so weak,” Everyone agreed to this plan. “One last thing before Rosalie and I go into town to see how everything is. We will ALL help to build the kitchen. That’s it for now. Goodbye, see you in a bit.” With that Rosalie and Demetri ran off into the forest towards the village.
Akantha and Adreana went up to their rooms to do what they loved to do. Akantha went up to her room to listen to Michael Jackson’s music while she painted a scene she sees in her dreams everyday – Yosemite. She painted Half Dome with a waterfall, and purple orange flowers, blooming everywhere. On a cliff next to the waterfall was a grizzly bear standing up to catch salmon from the water. There were a lot of redwood trees under the waterfall and around the river.
Adreana on the other hand was working out and dancing. Adreana was playing Just Dance 6. When she plays Just Dance 6 she makes sure that she exaggerates the moves so that she gets a workout from dancing this game. Adreana had always been different from her sister, she didn’t like to draw or to paint. She also didn’t like music that much, when she played Just Dance 6 she turned the music way down.
When Akantha and Adreana were really getting into their hobbies, out of nowhere they heard a knock on the door, and the sisters froze. No one comes to their house, ever. Adreana hollers, “Akantha, come down to the living room, right now.” When Akantha heard her sister, she ran down to the living room. They slowly started to walk towards the door together. When they saw who it was they both wanted to hide but realized the Conall had already seen them on the staircase. Akantha and Adreana knew that it was not good to show weakness to the Moonhowl family, so even though on the inside they were freaking out. They walked down the stairs confidently and opened the door.
Conall was still standing in the doorway talking to Akantha and Adreana. When the parents came home. When Demetri and Rosalie came to the door they got very angry, “Get away from my children, Conall you have already hurt one, I don’t need you to hurt anymore,” Threatened Rosalie as she sprung at Conall. Conall moved aside, farther from the door and the children so that Rosalie could guard her kids. “I am not here to fight. I explained to Akantha and Adreana why I was here in the first place and how my family, the Moonhowl family survived,” Conall explains as he puts his hands above his head. While the Culten family was listening to Conall a beautiful sunset began to happen. No one realized that a lot of time passed.
By then, the Moonhowl family must have been worried about Conall because he had been gone for many long hours. Coreenaa was very scared that something terrible had happened to Conall. Coreenaa decided that she would go venture to the Culten house with Fate, the youngest, because she needed to know that Fate was going to be safe with her. Coreenaa tells Seth and Kali to stay in the house and don’t leave the house until she came back with Conall and Fate.
Back at the Culten house, Conall was explaining to Akantha, Adreana, Demetri, and Rosalie how their family escaped the humans, long and interesting story that was long ago forgotten. When the Culten family started to warm up to Conall and trust him a bit better, Coreenaa came with Fate.
As Akantha and Rosalie saw Coreenaa coming toward them, they got very angry. “So, you think that you can win our trust over and then bring someone else from your pack and expect us to believe that you are not trying to hurt us? Get away from us Conall and Coreenaa,” Akantha growled. When Coreenaa came closer the Culten’s saw that she was holding Fate in her hand. Fate was a baby when the tragic fight between the two families happened centuries ago, he didn’t know the story of why they were fighting at that moment. Fate curiously wondered, “Mama, why are you and dad fighting with vampires?” Right there everyone realized they had to explain the story from long ago to Fate. Conall speaks, “I know you may not trust us anymore, but at least help us tell the story of that night.”
The vampires thought for a while and then agreed to it. Everyone sat down to tell the story. Coreenaa started the story off, “It all started centuries ago. Our family, the Moonhowl’s, were walking through the woods on a full moon. We were going to the spot where we always go to hide from the humans on the full moon. As we walked, we saw fire and voices coming closer and closer to us. Then, through the smoke from the fire we saw a dark blue furry hand reach out and grab Farkas from us. We couldn’t do anything to help her. We tried to pull Farkas, but the force was to strong. We knew from that moment on that the Culten family had set us up.”
“Wait!” interrupted Akantha, “You just said that the hand that came out of the smoke was DARK BLUE and FURRY, none of us in our family have dark blue and furry hands!”
Conall walked around the Culten family and inspected the hands of everyone, “No one in their family does have dark blue furry hands. But then who was it?” Conall questioned.
“Who else around here has the power to give someone press marks and can create fast track paths, if not the Cultens?” Coreenaa pondered. Everyone was quietly thinking in their head who could it be.
Everyone gasped, “Saberfate!!!”
“Who’s Saberfate?” Fate puzzled.
“Saberfate is a flying werewolf. She stays as a wolf all year round, but on the full moon she turns into fierce werewolf with wings. She can stand and walk around like a human, on two feet. When the full moon comes out so does she,” Demetri explains
“If you ever saw a black cloaked figure on the full moon, it was Saberfate. She likes to cause mischief and chaos for everyone, werewolves, vampires, or humans,” Akantha hesitated, “She feeds off chaos.”
“That does sound like something Saberfate would do. Probably after there being no chaos in Shadowville for centuries,” realized Adreana.
“We have to stop her before she kidnaps more creatures from the woods! She lives on the highest peaks of the Shadow Mountains in the darkest cave.” Coreenaa thought out loud.
Rosalie was hesitant to join the fight. “Saberfate is the reason behind loosing Farkas, but Conall murdered my son Phaeron. I don’t believe I can do anything with the Moonhowl’s.” Rosalie challenged.
“Mom, I know that you don’t want to have anything to do with the Moonhowl family, but we need to stop Saberfate first! Saberfate can hurt vampires too. Then we figure out our family problems,” Adreana sighs to Rosalie.
“Shouldn’t we go and get Seth and Kali to help us defeat Saberfate?” Fate asks. The Vampires ran, and werewolves pounded the ground as they went to the Moonhowl family’s house. They were all up the mountain in seconds ready to fight Saberfate. Akantha went first into the dark cave, “Saberfate, come out wherever you are, you can’t hide from us.” Akantha echoes into the cave.
From the far end of the cave they could see a flicker of light and a deep, cute sounding voice say, “I am over here in the back. What do you want?”
“First, we came to ask you to stop your mischief and creating chaos for everyone,” Seth asked politely.
Saberfate laughed so hard she fell onto the ground, “You all think that I am going to give up chaos so that people feel better. Right. No. Not happening,” Saberfate laughed.
“If you don’t stop, will we fight you for it! That doesn’t almost seem fair 9 against 1.” Kali yells confidently.
“Fine, if you want to fight let’s fight.” Saberfate said getting into position.
Akantha was ready to punch Saberfate, Adreana changed into a tiger thinking that would be the best to fight a flying werewolf. Demetri became invisible, Rosalie was ready to fight. The Moonhowl family was great with martials arts on top of their special skill.
“Let’s do this.” Akantha yelled, the fight began. First, the two families were losing to Saberfate, but they started to sneak up into a circle around Saberfate. Just as they had her cornered Saberfate flew out and the fight began again. The fight went on for ages until finally Saberfate was so tired of fighting she failed to fight anymore and fell to the ground. Everyone watched as Saberfate faded into nothing.
The families returned back to their normal lives under the mountain range. As they descended from the mountains everyone was quiet thinking about Saberfate, Phaeron and Farkas. When they arrived at the Culten house, everyone started to talk to each other again. “Together we killed the Farkas’s killer, but Phaeron’s killer is still alive,” Cried Rosalie.
“Sweetie, I know that it is a terrible sadness but the past is past we can’t do anything to save him.” Demetri comforts Rosalie.
“Thanks for the help to kill Saberfate, but from now on we will live in parallel if we ever meet on the streets we will say hi but not start a conversation. We won’t go to each other houses,” Akantha confidently exclaims. Rosalie nodded. It wasn’t long for them to shake Rosalie’s, Demetri’s, Adreana’s, and Akantha’s hand. The Moonhowl’s were off.
From that day forward the Culten family went to school, went to work, and learned to cook. The Moonhowl family kept hunting in the woods for prey, and stayed away from the village. They saw each other but never talked. Akantha because of her amazing paintings was able to persuade her family to go to Yosemite. They all became successful and were never uncovered.
Ever since, vampires and werewolves live next to each other, but not together.
