I Saw Orca Type D

I decided to draw the Orca, to bring back the memory of when I first saw the Orca type D, and to make you feel like you were there with me.

I wanted you to have a picture of the Orca in your head when I am telling you my story.

One night everyone was eating dinner together, when all of a sudden someone yelled: “There are fins outside.” Before the guy could even finish his sentence, everyone was out of the door and on the stern of the ship. People with big cameras were taking pictures. Click, click, click….. Suddenly, Christian Geissler, our expedition marine biologist and Orca expert yelled: “These are ORCAs!” Now everyone was even more excited. That was the first time for a lot us seeing Orcas in the wild!

We were out there in the freezing cold air, but we did not feel it. We were glued to the surface of the ocean. We were looking for fins and listening for blows. It was a magnificent site for meeting Orcas. When it was time for bed I was dreaming about the Orcas.

Next day we were having a recap and Christian was up. He switched slides and everyone knew what he was about to bring back. He looked very mysterious… I asked what kind of Orcas they were. They were the Orcas type D, which is the rarest Orca in the Antarctic Ocean! Christian knew because of their small white eye patch, which other Orcas do not have. He also said that if we got a picture that clearly showed the small eye patch, we could be the official 15th siting of the Orca type D in the whole entire world.

We were the official 15th siting! Christian found the right photo among thousands taken that night, which he could share with other scientists as a proof. Everyone was so happy! I felt so special!
