Boat Lake Michigan
Today, I picked to do a post about this boat that in July this year, 19 other kids and I are going to design and sail from Marquette MI. to Chicago IL.
We all have design ideas, but because it’s just one boat we would have to use a bit of everybody’s idea, and so that narrows it down to what I’m going to tell you about. My ideas! My ideas are about how we keep the boat clean from trash and water from getting all trashed up, and how we even make the Lake Michigan more clean!
These are some of the features that I thought of. My first idea was to have trash bags on each side of the boat. There would be one recycling trash bag, one compost trash bag and one trash bag that would be other, so anything that wouldn’t be compost or recycling it will go in the other trash bag. If this boat will collect trash then it would need to be low to the water so you would be able to pick up the trash along the way.
Another one of my ideas is a trash map. Why I think it is useful is that if we, the kids see a big piece of garbage floating in the water and we wouldn’t be able to take it, so when we got to Chicago we could tell someone about it, who would be going back up the Lake to Marquette or higher up.
A different idea I had was when we, the kids will build the boat we should use as much recycled things as possible, so when we get to Chicago the kids would be able to take a part of the boat home with them as a memory of the trip. If the sail would be a blanket that just has good writing on it then the 19 kids and I should give the sail to a homeless person to make a shelter from.
One more idea is that if there are some pieces of trash that look nasty the kid could put just one glove on from the pair of gloves, so another kid can use the other glove from the pair. On the boat there could maybe about eight pairs of gloves. That means that 16 kids could share 8 pairs of gloves because one kid doesn’t need two gloves it only needs one. Why only one? One kid only needs one glove because it is just reaching out with one hand and holding on to a handle on the boat with the other hand so the kid does not fall in the water. Splash!!!!!!
Different idea is that there could be a trash man or women to go around after all the people were done with eating. The person would come around and pick up all the trash and sort it into the three bags.
Last idea I had was that if there was a piece of trash that you couldn’t reach then you could use a stick that we pick up in the woods before we take off. This stick can be used not just for trash but if somebody to something useful fell off the boat.
If all people sorted their trash, the whole world wouldn’t have many landfills and there wouldn’t be the word trash. There would be things that we reuse, not landfill. The great memory of this trip would be the memory of accomplishment that we got as many pieces of trash that we could. I would like to share this amazing feeling with other humans in the world that remember a trip and because of what they accomplished on the amazing memory lives forever.
